Χρονικές προθέσεις (Prepositions
of Time)
Υπάρχουν τρεις χρονικές προθέσεις:
At
Η «At» χρησιμοποιείται για ακριβείς χρόνους:
At ten o’clock.
At 10.30am.
At the moment/present/same time.
At
sunrise/sunset/noon/dinnertime/bedtime/dusk/dawn.
Σημείωση: Η έκφραση «At night» είναι τυποποιημένη και είναι εξαίρεση στα παραπάνω.
In
Η «In» χρησιμοποείται για μήνες, χρόνια, δεκαετίες, αιώνες (months, years, decades, centuries) και μακρές χρονικές
περιόδους.
In January.
In 1991.
In the 70s.
In this century.
In the Dark Ages.
Σημείωση: Οι εκφράσεις: In the morning(s)/afternoon(s)/evening(s) είναι τυποποιημένες και αποτελούν εξαίρεση
σε αυτή την περίπτωση.
On
Η «On» χρησιμοποιείται για μέρες και ημερομηνίες:
On Wednesday.
On Friday.
On the 10th of January
On Christmas.
Σημείωση: Η «on» χρησιμοποιείται ακόμα όταν εξειδικεύουμε
αναφερόμενοι στην ημέρα και την ώρα της ημέρας, π.χ. on Wednesday mornings.

- Her birthday is on 20 November.
- Where will you be on New Year's Day?

Όταν λέμε: last, next, every, this, δεν χρησιμοποιούμε και τα: at, in, on.
- I went to London last June. (not in last June)
- He's coming back next Tuesday. (not on next Tuesday)
- I go home every Easter. (not at every Easter)
- We'll call you this evening. (not in this evening)
